Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation: Saline or Silicone Gel Filled Implants?

As you contemplate having breast augmentation, it is important to first realize you are considering a major surgery. Millions of women around the world have breast augmentation and the following information can help answer questions you might have.

Breast augmentation can be very beneficial for a woman who wants to feel better about her outward appearance. A rounder, fuller breast that is proportionate to the rest of your body, can help promote self-esteem and confidence. Breast implants can also help in improving breast fullness lost during childbirth and or breastfeeding.

The final decision to undergo this procedure, after carefully weighing all your options, should be made by you and you alone. Today, women have two options for breast augmentation, saline filled implants and silicone gel implants. Saline implants are silicone shells filled with saline (saltwater solution) that is very similar to the body’s natural fluid, which makes up most of the human body. These implants are inserted into the body without fluid and then filled with the saline fluid through a fill-tube during the surgery by your cosmetic surgeon. Saline implants come in three projection options: moderate, moderate plus and high profile. They also come in two shell surface options: smooth and textured (Siltex).

Silicone implants have a gel filler that holds together uniformly and looks and feels like natural breast tissue. The implants have a set fill volume for predictable results. Memory Gel implants come in three projection options: moderate, moderate plus and high profile to give you the look you want. They also come in two shell surface options: smooth and textured (Siltex)

Sizing of implants is done in cubic centimeters or cc’s not in cup bra size. This is because the size of the implant used depends on the size and shape of the individual woman’s chest. Your cosmetic surgeon will evaluate your existing breast and skin tissue and do careful measurements with a special system called Bodylogic in order to make the best product selection.

Another factor to consider in breast augmentation is incision placement. The incision size for a gel breast implant will be larger than the incision size of a saline implant. There are three common incision sites: around the nipple (periareolar), within the breast fold (inframammary) and under the arm (axillary)

Consultation with your cosmetic surgeon regarding breast augmentation will cover all areas mentioned above, along with complete medical history and procedural costs. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you “Love Your Look”
